2008 IKWF TRAVEL INSTRUCTIONS

Travel to Downtown Rockford and the MetroCentre:

The South Main Street (IL 2) route is the primary gateway to downtown Rockford and the MetroCentre. Travelers should use this gateway to avoid delay and congestion, and to access designated parking areas for the 2008 IKWF event.

The East State Street (Bus US 20) route will be congested and travelers will experience delay during most travel times, especially the peak hours. Trips to and from the E. State St. hotels will be much quicker using the S. Main St. route. Use Bypass US 20 and S. Main St. to take advantage of the gateway route.
PEAK TRAVEL TIMES
7 - 9 AM
4 - 6 PM

Travel to the MetroCentre:
If you decide to use the E. State St. route to downtown, IT IS CRUCIAL to follow the Bus US 20 marked route. As you enter downtown, the marked route will deviate from E. State St. Please watch for signs.  The route to the MetroCentre, as well as the designated parking areas available for use are on Jefferson Street. Proceed on Jefferson Street across the Rock River and follow the attached parking map. YOU WILL EXPERIENCE traffic backups and long delays if you try to stay on E. State St. all the way to the Rock River.

Travel exiting the MetroCentre:
Travelers exiting the downtown parking areas should use the S. Main St. route to access the Interstate highway system or to return to the East State Street hotels. If you decide to use the Bus US 20 route, you should follow the one-way couple system of Chestnut St. / Walnut St. across the Rock River. Travel times during the afternoon peak period will approach 60 minutes between downtown Rockford and the State Street hotels (near I-90). The travel time can be reduced significantly by using the S. Main St. route.

Parking:
The attached map shows the parking system in downtown and provides parking instructions. Please note parking on Thursday and Friday will be different from Saturday because of normal weekday business traffic.
